Kate Middleton Reportedly Snubbed King Charles Name Change Request

Princess of Wales Kate Middleton, who has become a beloved member of the royal family, is said to have rejected a unique request from King Charles to alter the spelling of her name during her engagement to Prince William.

According to claims made in Prince Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, King Charles and Queen Camilla had requested that Kate spell her name “Katherine” with a “K” instead of a “C.”

The unusual request was driven by their desire to avoid confusion with the existing royal cyphers, which include the letter “C” for both Charles and Camilla.

The royal couple reportedly feared that adding another cypher with a “C” might lead to complications.

In Spare, Harry reveals: “There were already two royal cyphers with a C and a crown above: Charles and Camilla. It would be too confusing to have another. Make it Katherine with a K, they suggested. I wondered now what came of that suggestion.”

The memoir recounts Harry’s reaction upon learning of the proposal, noting: “I turned to Willy, gave him a look that said, ‘You listening to this?’ His face was blank.”

The anecdote highlights the tension and unexpected challenges that can arise within royal protocols and personal preferences.

Despite the request from the King and Queen Consort, Kate Middleton, known to most of the public as Kate, remained steadfast in her preference to keep her name as Catherine with a “C.”

This choice aligns with how she is commonly referred to by her family, including Prince William.

This revelation adds another layer to the complex dynamics within the royal family, illustrating how even seemingly small matters can become points of contention in the world of royal protocols.
