Angelina Jolie has officially withdrawn her lawsuit against the FBI, ending a two-year legal battle that sought to uncover details about the bureau’s investigation into alleged abuse by her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.
The legal dispute, which stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred in 2016 during a private jet flight, has been closely watched by the media and the public, highlighting the ongoing tension between the former couple.
As revealed in court documents obtained by Page Six, Jolie filed a motion on September 25 to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
Both parties agreed to bear their own legal fees, marking the official conclusion of the case.
Jolie initially filed the lawsuit in April 2022, operating under the pseudonym “Jane Doe,” in an effort to gain more information regarding the FBI’s investigation into an alleged altercation that took place on a private flight in 2016.
According to reports, Jolie had accused Pitt of being physically abusive toward her and their children during the flight, which ultimately led to an anonymous tip being made to the FBI, prompting the bureau to investigate the matter.
However, the FBI’s investigation concluded in November 2016 with no charges filed against Pitt.
Just days after the bureau closed the case, Jolie filed for divorce from the actor, effectively ending their two-year marriage and a 12-year relationship.
Since then, the former couple has been embroiled in multiple legal disputes, including contentious custody battles over their six children and other financial matters.
The incident that led to the FBI’s involvement occurred on a private jet traveling from France to Los Angeles in September 2016.
Allegedly, during the flight, Pitt, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, got into an argument with one of their children, which escalated into physical aggression. Reports indicated that Pitt had also been verbally abusive toward Jolie.
Once the plane landed, Jolie and Pitt were met by law enforcement, and soon after, an anonymous tip to the FBI triggered an investigation into possible child abuse.
The FBI interviewed both Jolie and Pitt, as well as their children, to assess the situation.
In November 2016, the FBI closed the case, stating that no charges would be filed against Pitt.
While Jolie did not initially contest the FBI’s findings, she later pursued legal action to access the investigation records, aiming to better understand how the bureau handled the case.
In her lawsuit, Jolie sought information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) about the investigation, particularly regarding the handling of her minor children’s involvement as potential victims and witnesses.
