As Princess Charlotte, daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, approaches her 9th birthday, speculation swirls about her future and whether she will choose to maintain her royal title or forge a path of her own, unencumbered by traditional expectations.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently shared her insights with OK! magazine, suggesting that Princess Charlotte’s strong-willed nature and aversion to conforming to conventions may lead her to consider relinquishing her royal title in adulthood.
Bond notes that upon the eventual ascent of her older brother, Prince George, to the throne as King of Britain, Princess Charlotte will be bestowed with the title of the Princess Royal, a position traditionally held by the eldest daughter of the monarch.
However, Bond questions whether Charlotte, known for her independent spirit, would embrace this additional title.
“I think we will be in a very modern era when the time comes. I question whether Charlotte will want to be burdened with more titles.
She might be a working woman by then,” Bond conjectures.
While the natural expectation may be for Charlotte to assume the title of Princess Royal, Bond suggests that she may opt for simplicity and choose to be known simply as Princess Charlotte, following the lead of her parents, who often encourage informality by preferring to be addressed by their first names.

“Perhaps Charlotte will not even use the Princess title by the time she’s grown up and definitely won’t want to be burdened with more titles,” Bond concludes.
