Amy Robach Reveals Shocking Truth About Life with Daughter Amid Divorce Drama
Amy Robach has recently opened up about the “unique” experience of living with her daughter Annalise during her divorce from ex-husband Andrew Shue. On the August 26 episode of the “Amy and T.J.” podcast, which Robach cohosts with her boyfriend T.J. Holmes, she candidly discussed the challenges and unexpected joys of this period in her life.
Robach, 51, shared that while divorce is something she would never wish upon anyone, it has also provided her and her daughter with a special opportunity to bond in ways they hadn’t before. “You can look at the bad and the negative with divorce and upheaval and all of that.
That’s not anything I would ever suggest or want for anyone or any family,” Robach stated. However, she noted that this difficult period allowed her and Annalise to spend quality time together as a duo, which was a significant change from their previously bustling household.
The former GMA3 and 20/20 anchor explained that their home had often been filled with various people over the years, but after her separation from Shue, it became just the two of them. This new dynamic was initially a big adjustment, especially for Annalise, 18, who noted that it was “a big change” but acknowledged that they eventually settled into a comfortable groove together.
Robach shares Annalise, as well as her elder daughter Ava, 21, with her first husband, Tim McIntosh. Her divorce from Andrew Shue, 57, whom she was still legally married to when news of her relationship with T.J. Holmes broke in November 2022, has been a significant chapter in her life.
The revelation of her romance with Holmes, also 47 and her coanchor at the time, led to both of them being fired from their positions at GMA3. They were in the process of divorcing their respective partners when their relationship became public, adding another layer of complexity to their personal lives.
Despite the upheaval, Annalise seems to have adopted a forward-looking perspective, choosing not to dwell on the past. She shared on the podcast that one of the biggest lessons she’s learned over the past few years is to keep moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned. “Things happen for a reason that might not be for a good reason, but, eventually, it all works out,” she said, reflecting on both her family’s experiences and her own future.

This outlook is particularly relevant as Annalise prepares to embark on a new chapter of her life—attending the University of Colorado at Boulder. She’s set to start her college journey with a study abroad program in Spain, marking another significant change for both her and Robach.
Robach also reflected on her relationship with Annalise, describing it as remarkably smooth. “I think we’ve only had, like, 1 or 2 flare ups ever in 18 years,” she said, expressing her appreciation for her daughter’s calm and cool demeanor. Robach compared Annalise to Holmes, noting that both have a quality that makes others want to be their friend, adding that her daughter is like “the cool girl” everyone admires.
As Robach prepares for life as an empty nester, sources close to her have noted that she is happier than ever. Friends have remarked that they’ve “never seen her this happy,” as she and Holmes look forward to their future together. While they aren’t rushing into marriage, the couple is deeply committed to each other, with a source sharing that they’re taking things slow to avoid ruining their strong friendship-turned-romance.
For now, Robach is focused on enjoying her time with Annalise before she heads off to college, while also looking ahead to the next chapter in her own life with optimism and excitement.
