David Beckham’s relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a dramatic turn after the royal couple allegedly snubbed the football star in a high-profile incident.
According to royal author Tom Bower, the snub occurred shortly after Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018, during the Invictus Games held in Sydney.
Beckham, who attended the event with anticipation, was reportedly left bewildered when he found himself excluded from meeting the Prince.
Bower recounts that Beckham was puzzled by the protocol that seemed designed to keep him away from Prince Harry.
“David was perplexed why officials were playing a dance to keep him happy, but away from Harry,” Bower wrote.

“The royal snub was brutal,” Bower added. “Meghan did not want any competition in the media from Beckham, and especially not from his wife Victoria.”
Beckham’s opportunity for revenge came when he was later invited to Boston by Prince William for the Earthshot Prize, an initiative aimed at addressing the climate crisis.
This invitation was seen by some as Beckham’s way of reclaiming the spotlight and rectifying the perceived slight from Sydney. Bower suggested that this gesture marked Beckham’s subtle but significant form of retribution for the previous snub.
