Ethan Plath Signs Divorce Papers Reflects on Heartbreak in Welcome to Plathville
Ethan Plath has finally agreed to sign the divorce papers ending his marriage to Olivia Plath, a significant moment in the latest episode of Welcome to Plathville. The decision to move forward with the divorce comes after months of emotional struggle and reflection for both Ethan and Olivia, who have been separated for nine months.
During the Tuesday, August 13 episode, viewers watched as Ethan, 26, and Olivia, also 26, confronted the finality of their relationship. Olivia traveled to Minnesota, where the couple once shared an apartment, to collect her belongings. The atmosphere was tense as Ethan expressed his lingering confusion and pain over the end of their seven-year relationship.
“I don’t understand how you can move on so easily after seven years,” Ethan told Olivia, his voice heavy with emotion. Despite his frustration, Olivia assured him that the process had been anything but easy for her. “Who said it was easy? Because it wasn’t,” she replied.
Ethan’s struggle to accept the end of their marriage was evident throughout the episode. He admitted that he felt “stuck” and unable to move on, while Olivia seemed to have already turned the page on their relationship. “I feel stuck and for the life of me I can’t seem to do anything about it,” Ethan confessed. “But you don’t have that problem.”
Olivia, who now resides in California, explained her perspective to the cameras, revealing that the dissolution of their marriage had been a long time coming. “It’s been, like, a few years worth of watching the relationship die and, like, fighting to save it and not being able to, and then just finally accepting it and moving on,” she said.
The couple, who announced their divorce in October 2023 after five years of marriage, had faced numerous challenges throughout their relationship. Much of their marital tension stemmed from conflicts with Ethan’s ultra-conservative parents, Kim and Barry Plath, as well as differing visions for their future. Despite their best efforts, the relationship ultimately could not withstand the strain.
In previous episodes of Welcome to Plathville, Olivia had repeatedly asked Ethan to sign the divorce documents, but he had been reluctant to do so. “It feels frustrating for me because I don’t feel like Ethan understands,” Olivia shared, reflecting on the nine months that had passed since they agreed to separate.
Ethan’s perspective on the situation revealed his deep emotional struggle. “Olivia, did I ever tell you that that morning that I unloaded on you [and] told you everything that I couldn’t stand anymore? I didn’t think that that would be the end of us,” he said, explaining that he had believed they would fight and eventually work things out. Olivia, however, had taken his words at face value, leading to the end of their marriage.
As Olivia packed up her belongings, Ethan decided to leave the apartment for some fresh air, needing a moment to process the emotional weight of the situation. In a confessional, Olivia reflected on the pain she had experienced during their marriage and the relief she felt after moving on. “It’s hard to see Ethan in this much pain and struggling this much with everything, but I spent years logged down in stress and being on the other side of things,” she said. “I’ve realized that I felt more alone when I was in a relationship than I do being by myself.”

While sorting through old photos, Olivia shared that she wouldn’t change the past, despite the painful outcome. “I think life is learned by experiences, and if I were to tell myself not to experience this out of self-preservation because the end is painful or hard, then I would have missed out on a lot,” she explained.
Before signing the divorce papers, Ethan chose to write Olivia a letter expressing his true feelings. He shared the contents of the letter with viewers, explaining that he apologized for the ways he fell short in their relationship and expressed his hope that Olivia would find what he couldn’t provide. “It’s my way of letting her go,” Ethan said, acknowledging that it was his attempt to move forward.
The following day, Ethan signed the divorce papers, marking the official end of their marriage. Reflecting on their time together, Ethan said, “I definitely do feel like me and Olivia grew up together. We stepped out in the world together on our own. We gave it a good run, but not everything works.”
