Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Hidden Message to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Comes to Light
The annual royal Christmas card tradition is a much-anticipated event, offering the public a glimpse into the personal lives of the royal family.
This year, however, the Christmas cards of Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their two families have sparked a conversation that goes beyond holiday greetings.
Body language expert Judi James has offered her analysis of the cards sent out by the Sussexes and the Windsors, suggesting that there is a hidden message beneath the festive images.
Judi James, in her comparison of the two royal families’ Christmas cards, first pointed out the contrast in tone between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s card and that of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
According to James, the Sussexes’ card strikes a distinctly formal and corporate tone, looking almost like a well-crafted public relations effort.
She described it as a “Round Robin” update—a term often used to describe letters that give a curated account of a person’s activities over a set period.
“Harry and Meghan’s card was primarily corporate,” James explained in an interview with The Mirror, “a ‘Round Robin’ update on the duo’s best bits of the year with each carefully selected and collected pose and each photo looking like a PR exercise to show them in their ideal state in terms of glitteringly successful, caring, loving, passionate, and global.”
She continued, adding that the Sussexes’ family photo was taken from behind, with the couple’s children, Archie and Lilibet, visible only from the back.
“Their picture with their children sees Archie and Lilibet from back view only and shot from the kind of distance that makes it look ironically like a paparazzi photo,” she said.
This, according to James, was not by accident but rather a conscious decision to maintain their privacy.
She pointed out that “their message is one of indulgent, besotted and very even-balanced parenthood,” but it deliberately avoids giving the public too much of a personal glimpse into the family dynamic.
By not showing their children’s faces and choosing an image that appears to be taken from a distance, Harry and Meghan’s card conveys a message of intimacy while reinforcing their desire for privacy.
In contrast, James suggested that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Christmas card offered a far more open and emotionally resonant portrait of family life.
“With William and Kate’s card, we have a facing-the-camera, close-up view of what looks like very open and honestly shared emotions from both parents and children,” she noted.
This image, according to James, reflects a much more personal connection to the public, revealing not just the royal family’s warmth but also a sense of shared vulnerability.
She highlighted that the card included an image similar to the one seen in Kate’s video update about her cancer diagnosis earlier this year, a moment that many fans found poignant.
“This is the family image we saw in Kate’s video update of her illness,” James observed, “and the body language here is nuanced and complex enough to gently hint at everything they have been going through.”
One striking element of the image is the family’s close proximity, with the children and parents grouped together in an intimate, protective manner.
James pointed out that in the picture, “Charlotte is seen with protective arms around her mother and brother, almost clinging them together.” This gesture suggests a familial bond and a sense of security.
William, too, is seen positioning himself close to his family, “holding his arm around Louis, but his hand is gently cupping Kate’s thigh,” a posture that suggests warmth and mutual support.
Kate herself, who has been open about her health struggles this year, appears to be in a protective position, “placing one arm around her children with the other reaching for her husband and younger son,” as James described.
This body language speaks to the challenges the family has faced in the public eye, particularly in relation to Kate’s health.
James’ analysis points to a deeper contrast in the way that the Sussexes and the Cambridges approach their public personas, especially when it comes to their children and family life.

While Harry and Meghan have carefully cultivated an image that prioritizes privacy and distance, William and Kate seem more eager to share their emotions and experiences with the public.
“While Harry and Meghan have quite understandably decided to create a distance in terms of family reveals and allow their desire for privacy to dominate the photo they chose, William and Kate seem to have treated the public like members of their own family and shared their smiles and emotions with us,” James said.
This difference in approach has led many royal watchers to interpret William and Kate’s Christmas card as not just a family portrait, but a subtle message to their critics and the public.
By choosing an image that shows genuine warmth and shared moments, the Prince and Princess of Wales appear to be signaling their confidence in their public role and their relationship with the British people.
They are a royal family that is willing to be open and vulnerable, even in the face of challenges.
For some, this contrast between the cards could be seen as a subtle commentary on the rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
By presenting a close-knit, emotionally open family unit, William and Kate may be signaling their commitment to royal duties and their willingness to maintain strong family ties despite the turbulence caused by Harry and Meghan’s departure.
This hidden message, whether intentional or not, may have been noticed by both the public and the royal family itself.
It could be interpreted as a reminder of the differing approaches to family life and public engagement, with William and Kate offering a stark contrast to the Sussexes’ more private, distant stance.
As the royal family continues to navigate its evolving dynamics, it seems that every gesture, every photo, and every public appearance carries a deeper significance than ever before.
