Prince William has shared an adorable moment with fans about his daughter Princess Charlotte’s unexpected reaction to his new look.
The Prince of Wales, who made headlines for debuting a beard in August 2024, recently recalled how his beloved daughter was not too fond of the facial hair at first.
During an interview on his visit to South Africa, William humorously revealed that Charlotte was so distressed by his new beard that it brought her to tears.
“Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears, the first one I got tears, so I had to shave it off,” the father-of-three admitted. “And then I grew it back,” he added with a smile.
William’s candid admission about his daughter’s reaction shows the tender side of their father-daughter relationship.
Despite Charlotte’s initial upset, the Prince of Wales explained how he later convinced her that it was “going to be okay.”
The change in appearance, though a simple one for many, was a big shift for Charlotte, especially at a young age.

Jack Miles, the owner of Revyv Hair, spoke with GB News and explained that such changes can be confusing for children. “Change is difficult for everyone. Children don’t expect change at a younger age,” Miles said.
“With him having a beard, it would have been a shock, but I think Charlotte would have been able to get over it.”
Miles continued, “Normal people dye their hair, they get it cut, they grow it out and guys shave and let their beard grow, so I think it’s normal for Charlotte to be confused.”
Prince William’s beard debut came in a video alongside his wife, Kate Middleton, where they congratulated Team GB for their achievements at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The image of a bearded William, standing side by side with his wife, was an unexpected yet charming moment for the public.
Despite the initial tears, it seems that Princess Charlotte has since come to terms with her father’s facial hair.
