Appearing on Kelly Ripa’s podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera, Oprah opened up about an unforgettable call she received from her famous neighbors during the holiday weekend.
According to Oprah, it all started with an unexpected ring from Prince Harry himself. “I get a call from Harry, Prince Harry, on Easter Saturday,” she began, mimicking his British accent for dramatic effect. “He says, ‘Sorry to bother you, O, but we have a duck problem here.’”
What followed was a scene straight out of a comedy sketch. Oprah explained that a duck had wandered into the Sussexes’ Montecito yard, laid eggs, and hatched her chicks. But their home, she said, had a stream rather than a pond.
Prince Harry, ever the thoughtful host, had an idea. “Can we bring the ducks over to your pond?” he asked, according to Oprah’s retelling.
Of course, Oprah agreed. She was delighted by the idea and immediately called her best friend Gayle King’s grandchildren so they could witness the duck transfer in real time.
“I said, ‘Wait until I can get the kids to come down to the pond so they can see you put the ducks in the pond,’” Oprah shared. But Harry was not waiting. “He goes, ‘No, we’re coming right away, we’re coming over.’”
From that moment on, chaos ensued. Oprah, now 71, recalled what happened when the Sussexes arrived with their unexpected guests in tow.
“As he opens the door, the mama duck flies out,” she said, still laughing at the memory. “And he’s got all the baby ducks in a box.”
Then came the royal wild goose—or rather duck—chase. The mama duck bolted for freedom, leaving the babies behind. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sprang into action, chasing the frantic bird across Oprah’s property.

“We’re chasing the mama duck who is in the front yard and has flown to the other side,” Oprah explained. “We’ve got her ducks. Harry’s running after, Meghan gets out, she’s running after, trying to get her to come back to her ducks.”
For half an hour, the trio was locked in a full-on duck rescue mission, trying to reunite the panicked mother with her ducklings. Oprah called it one of the funniest things she had ever seen. “We have video,” she added. “It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.”
