X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter, announced on Monday that its owner, Elon Musk, and Chief Executive, Linda Yaccarino, will both be taking on leadership roles in overseeing the trust and safety team. This team is responsible for content moderation and has faced criticism since Musk acquired the company in October of the previous year. Researchers have accused X of relaxing content guardrails, leading to an increase in harmful posts. However, the company has maintained that the majority of content views are of “healthy” posts.

Under the new leadership structure, X’s product and engineering team will report to Elon Musk, while Linda Yaccarino will oversee all other divisions, including human resources, legal, finance, sales, and operations.

In an email addressed to X employees on Monday, which was shared with Reuters, Linda Yaccarino stated that the company is actively searching for a new leader for brand safety and suitability. The previous head of brand safety, A.J. Brown, who focused on preventing advertisements from appearing next to unsuitable content, left the company the previous month.

Yaccarino also mentioned in the email that three X leaders will be assigned to different responsibilities within the trust and safety team, including law enforcement operations and threat disruptions.

These changes in leadership come after Ella Irwin resigned as the head of the trust and safety team in June, indicating a period of reorganization and strategic shifts within the company.

As X aims to address concerns and strengthen its content moderation efforts, the involvement of both Elon Musk and Linda Yaccarino in overseeing the trust and safety team indicates a commitment to improving the platform’s safety and user experience. The search for a new head of brand safety suggests that the company is actively seeking to fill critical roles with qualified individuals to enhance its content safeguard measures.
