Omid Scobie Sparks Debate Over Kate Middleton Privacy Amid Princess Recovery

Royal biographer Omid Scobie has stirred controversy with his recent social media comments, drawing attention to Princess Kate Middleton’s privacy amidst ongoing concerns surrounding the Princess of Wales’s recovery from abdominal surgery.

Since December 2023, the Princess of Wales has maintained a low profile following her surgery in January. The Palace issued a brief health update on Tuesday, indicating positive progress in the princess’s recovery. However, this update coincided with Prince William’s unexpected withdrawal from attending a memorial service at St George’s Chapel for the late King Constantine.

Scobie, often seen as a spokesperson for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his views on the privacy of the Princess Kate Middleton during her recovery.

He remarked, “While I firmly believe the Princess of Wales should be allowed to recover without disturbance or prying, it’s bizarre to me that the same conscience-free papers who hack, harass, who made me feel unsafe by flying drones to stalk me, have suddenly learned the meaning of privacy.”

In a move that raised eyebrows, Scobie included a screenshot of a story from a leading gossip website in his post, which had inquired about his whereabouts following the publication of his book, “Endgame,” last November. This book contained multiple references to the Princess of Wales, including depictions of her as “Stepford-wife-like.” Additionally, due to a publishing error, Princess Kate and King Charles were erroneously implicated in an alleged racism row over Prince Archie’s skin color in the Dutch version of the book.

“Endgame” was released three years after Scobie’s previous controversial biography of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, titled “Finding Freedom.” In 2021, the Duchess apologized in court for failing to remember authorizing a senior aide to brief Scobie and his co-author, Durand.

Scobie’s remarks have reignited discussions around media scrutiny, privacy rights, and the role of royal biographers. As the Princess Kate Middleton continues her recovery, the ongoing debate prompted by Scobie’s comments underscores the complex interplay between royal figures, media coverage, and personal privacy.
