Prince George Causes Tension in Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Marriage Over His Future
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly experiencing tension in their marriage as they clash over the future role of their son, Prince George.
The couple is reportedly at odds over whether a more formal role as a working royal would be too demanding for George, who recently turned 11.
Royal author and expert Tom Quinn, in his book Gilded Youth, reveals that the Prince and Princess of Wales have been having intense discussions about the impact of a formal royal role on their son’s well-being.
William is particularly concerned that a more prominent role might reflect negatively on George’s childhood and wellbeing.
Quinn shares insights from his contacts, noting, “There is a bit of an argument going on about whether George should play a more formal role.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly worried that such responsibilities could be overwhelming for George, reminiscent of the pressures William and Harry faced during their own childhood.
The situation is said to remind William and Kate of their own experiences, particularly the controversial decision to have young William and Harry attend their mother Princess Diana’s funeral.
William has previously described the experience of walking behind Diana’s casket as “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” adding that it left him feeling “completely numb.”
Quinn suggests that the couple’s current concerns stem from this past experience.

“A lot of people criticised that and said that it was a horrible thing to make two boys that young, especially Harry, do,” he notes.
There is apprehension that if George were to take on a formal role, such as being a pageboy or a similar figure at future royal events like a Coronation, it might be seen as a return to outdated traditional practices that place undue pressure on young royals.
As Prince George’s role in the royal family evolves, the ongoing debate between Prince William and Kate Middleton highlights their concerns about balancing royal duties with their son’s well-being.
