As the smartphone industry eagerly awaits the arrival of Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max later this year, leaked details about the devices suggest a significant performance boost, thanks to the new A18 Pro chip lurking under the hood. According to benchmark scores that surfaced online, the A18 Pro could outshine its predecessor, the A17 Pro, and potentially surpass Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip in certain aspects.
The leaked Geekbench 6 scores, shared by user Nguyen Phi Hung (@negativeonehero) on X, indicate that the A18 Pro chip scores an impressive 3,500 points on the single-core test and 8,200 on the multi-core test. In comparison, the current-generation iPhone 15 Pro Max, equipped with the A17 Pro chip, scores 2,898 points and 7,201 points on the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. This suggests a potential 20.77 percent increase in single-core performance for the A18 Pro over its predecessor.
However, the competition remains fierce, with leaked benchmarks for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, expected to succeed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, revealing a single-core score of 2,845 points and an impressive 10,628 points on the multi-core test. This hints at a possible leapfrogging of Apple’s chip in terms of multi-core performance.
It’s essential to approach these benchmarks cautiously, considering the devices are not expected until Q3 2024.
