Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Separation a Strategic Necessity Amid Shifting Public Image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to pursue separate career paths may not be due to marital issues but rather a strategic move, claims PR expert Edward Coram James.
According to James, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, once known for their unified brand, have consciously chosen to separate their professional lives in response to evolving public sentiment.
“Since their marriage, Harry and Meghan have had a distinct brand. That brand is based on a duo,” James told The Mirror.
“Call it ‘Harry and Meghan,’ or call it ‘the Sussexes,’ the fact is they have become synonymous with one another.”
This unified image propelled their brand initially, especially after the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview that exposed their struggles with the royal family.
However, over time, the expert notes that their brand has encountered obstacles. “Since the Oprah interview, which turned a simmering disagreement with the Royal Family into what was essentially all-out-war.
Their brand has become increasingly toxic and commercially untenable,” James observed. This shift has had a substantial impact, with fewer major brands willing to associate with them.
The expert attributed this decline to their public approach toward family disagreements. “Their ongoing confrontations with both the Royal Family and parts of Meghan’s family have created a combative, confrontational image,” he explained.

James also pointed out that their repeated commercial endeavors, from Netflix documentaries to podcasts, have met with mixed reviews, ultimately making them appear less desirable partners for major brands.
Additionally, the Sussexes’ broad publicity tours, which emphasized their grievances, have affected their public reception.
“Their worldwide publicity tour made them look whiny, ungrateful, and unconscious of the enormous privilege they’ve enjoyed,” he continued.
This impression, according to James, has only solidified their image as controversial figures rather than sympathetic voices for change.
Given these factors, the decision to separate their careers may indeed be a calculated choice to preserve their individual reputations.
As their public image evolves, pursuing distinct projects could allow Harry and Meghan to redefine themselves on their own terms.
