Prince William Reveals Why Prince George Still Doesn’t Have a Phone Despite Growing Pressure
Prince William has opened up about one of the most personal parenting decisions he and Kate Middleton have made regarding their three children banning cell phones at home. The Prince of Wales shared that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are growing up without the digital access most children their age already have.
During his candid conversation with actor Eugene Levy for The Reluctant Traveler on Apple TV, the future king explained that none of his children are allowed to own cell phones. His comments offered a rare glimpse into how the royal couple is raising their young family amid the growing influence of technology and social media.
The topic came up again during Prince William’s recent trip to Brazil for the Earthshot Prize awards. Speaking to TV host Luciano Huck, he admitted that managing technology around his children has become increasingly challenging. “It’s really hard,” William said, reflecting on how quickly the online world is changing.
He revealed that Prince George, who is set to move to a new school next year, has been at the center of the discussion. “Our children don’t have phones,” William explained. “I think when George moves on to secondary school, then maybe he might have a phone that has no internet access.”
The royal father confessed that the decision has not been easy and has caused tension within the family. “It’s getting to the point where it’s becoming a little bit of a tense issue,” he admitted. “But I think he understands why.”
William went on to say that he and Kate are very open with their children about the risks of the internet. “We communicate why we don’t think it’s right,” he said. “I think children can access too much stuff they don’t need to see online, and so having a phone that can only text or call, the old sort of ‘brick phone,’ I think that’s fine.”
His remarks reflect the couple’s growing concerns about the pressures facing young people today. Prince William has often spoken about mental health awareness and online safety, and his parenting choices seem to echo those priorities.

The future king’s strict rules may seem surprising to some, but royal experts say they align perfectly with William and Kate’s hands-on approach to raising their children. The couple has often been praised for maintaining as normal a life as possible for George, Charlotte, and Louis, despite their royal status.
One royal insider told The Mirror that the Prince and Princess of Wales want their children to “understand the value of human connection over digital distractions.” The insider added that William’s decision to delay introducing phones was driven by a desire to “protect their innocence for as long as possible.”
Experts also note that the royal children’s limited exposure to screens allows them to spend more time outdoors, nurturing a love for nature a value deeply important to both their parents. This aligns with the couple’s long-standing environmental advocacy, especially through initiatives like the Earthshot Prize.
Parents across the world have praised William for setting a strong example, highlighting the growing concern about children’s exposure to social media and inappropriate content. Many said it was refreshing to see a future monarch openly acknowledging the struggles modern families face.
However, others believe that as Prince George grows older, it may be difficult for him to maintain such restrictions, especially as he transitions into a more public role and attends a larger school. Still, William’s remarks suggest he is prepared to take that challenge one step at a time.
For now, it seems Prince George’s digital world will remain off-limits at least until he earns his father’s trust to handle it responsibly.
