Former Amazing Race Contestant Shana Wall Files Lawsuit Against American Airlines
Shana Wall, a former contestant on The Amazing Race and a known figure in the culinary world, has filed a lawsuit against American Airlines after an alarming incident on a recent flight. Wall, 51, claims she suffered significant injuries.
After allegedly swallowing plastic shards that were present in a beverage served to her during a flight from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Rome on May 1. The lawsuit, first reported by The New York Post and later confirmed through court documents obtained by Us Weekly, was filed with the New York County Clerk on August 12.
Wall’s legal complaint outlines the severe impact the incident has had on her health and professional life. The actress and model, who is also a sommelier and contributing recipe writer, alleges that ingesting the plastic caused serious and permanent damage to her throat, esophagus, vocal cords, and digestive system. The injuries were so severe that Wall claims she was left “confined to home and bed,” unable to work, and continues to suffer from the internal injuries caused by the incident.
According to the lawsuit, Wall has experienced a significant decline in her quality of life due to her injuries. The complaint states that she was “caused to be sick, sore, lame and disabled,” resulting in a loss of enjoyment of life and incapacity from performing her occupational duties. As a result, Wall has sustained wage and economic losses and anticipates incurring future medical expenses for ongoing treatment of her injuries.
Wall is seeking an unspecified amount in damages from American Airlines, citing the airline’s responsibility to provide safe and uncontaminated food and beverages to its passengers. The lawsuit alleges that the airline “created the dangerous, defective and unsafe condition on the airplane,” leading to the incident that caused Wall’s injuries.
Representatives for both Wall and American Airlines have yet to comment on the lawsuit. However, the case has raised concerns about in-flight safety and the responsibility of airlines to ensure the well-being of their passengers.
Shana Wall first gained public attention as a contestant on season 12 of The Amazing Race in 2001. She later became known for her relationship with television personality Ryan Seacrest, whom she dated from 2003 to 2005. In addition to her television appearances, Wall has built a reputation in the culinary world as a sommelier and recipe writer, contributing to publications like Best Life.

Despite the alleged incident on the way to her vacation, Wall continued to share updates from her wine-tasting tour across Italy via Instagram in May. On May 18, she posted about a wine-tasting event in Alba, showcasing her passion for fine wines.
“Alba nights! Beautiful vertical #BriccoRocche ##Barolo 1982, 1986 & 1990,” Wall wrote on Instagram, indicating that the ’86 vintage was the favorite of the evening. The post highlights her dedication to her craft, despite the physical and emotional toll the incident has taken on her.
Wall’s lawsuit against American Airlines is not the first high-profile legal battle involving a celebrity and an airline this year. Just last month, United Airlines faced backlash after Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis was mistakenly placed on a no-fly list and escorted off a plane in handcuffs on July 13. In response to the incident, United Airlines issued an apology to Davis, acknowledging the mistake and committing to reviewing their procedures to ensure customer safety and satisfaction.
As Wall’s case progresses, it underscores the importance of passenger safety and the accountability of airlines in providing a secure and comfortable travel experience. The outcome of this lawsuit could have broader implications for the airline industry and its handling of similar incidents in the future.
