Why Prince Harry Didn’t Invite His Family to Lilibet’s Birthday Party
Princess Lilibet, the daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, celebrated her third birthday with a lavish, star-studded party at the couple’s California mansion. The celebration was notably devoid of Royal Family members, highlighting the ongoing rift between Prince Harry and his relatives.
The birthday bash reportedly included celebrities such as Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, whose daughter Daisy is close in age to Lilibet. This Hollywood guest list reflects the couple’s integration into the American celebrity scene since their move to California.
Royal expert Tom Quinn provided insights into the guest list and the absence of royal relatives. He claimed that Prince Harry did not extend invitations to his family members, as he was certain they would decline. This decision underscores the deepening estrangement between Harry and his family, particularly his brother, Prince William.
Quinn shared, “One of Harry’s old army friends said: ‘Harry knew they wouldn’t come anyway and he was pretty sure he would not have wanted them there. But he is really sad that Archie and Lilibet cannot have any kind of relationship with their cousins while his feud with his family continues.”
This sentiment highlights the personal cost of the ongoing familial discord, particularly for the younger generation who are growing up without close connections to their royal cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Despite the absence of the royal family, the party was anything but low-key. Quinn described it as a weekend-long pre-birthday bash filled with entertainment and attended by high-profile friends. However, Harry and Meghan reportedly refrained from giving “hugely expensive presents,” focusing instead on creating a memorable experience for their daughter.
Quinn noted the lack of royal invitations, stating, “Shockingly no invitations to Lilibet’s party were issued to members of the Royal Family.” This deliberate exclusion signifies the current state of relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family, which have been strained since Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior royal roles and moved to the United States.
Nevertheless, King Charles did not completely overlook Lilibet’s special day. Despite the absence of an invitation, he sent a gift and a message to his granddaughter. Quinn revealed, “King Charles had no intention of completely ignoring Lilibet’s birthday so he has sent a gift along with a message.”
He further mentioned that the King had previously given Prince George a handmade wooden swing with his name carved on it and plans to give a similar gift to Lilibet, but only “if and when the family feud dies down.”

This gesture from King Charles shows a desire to maintain some form of connection with his grandchildren, even amidst the ongoing tensions. However, the conditional nature of future gifts underscores the hope for reconciliation and the resolution of the familial rift.
Princess Lilibet’s birthday celebration, while a joyous occasion, also serves as a poignant reminder of the complex dynamics within the royal family. The star-studded guest list contrasted sharply with the notable absence of her royal relatives, highlighting the personal and relational impacts of the Sussexes’ departure from royal duties and their subsequent estrangement from the royal family.
As Prince Harry and Meghan continue to build their lives in California, the hope for healing and renewed connections remains, particularly for the sake of the youngest members of the family who are growing up separated by both distance and division.
