In a development that’s left Kate Middleton and Prince William in a tough spot, the Prince and Princess of Wales new ventures in Montecito have reportedly added to the strain on the royal couple, who are already grappling with health issues within the family.
According to The Sun, royal commentator Phil Dampier has shed light on how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the royal family has exacerbated the current challenges faced by the Waleses.
Dampier pointed out that the “slimmed-down monarchy by default” has become even thinner with the absence of Harry and Meghan during this period of health struggles involving King Charles and Princess Kate.
“The royal family members are thin on the ground, and obviously, were they still working royals, Harry and Meghan could have taken up a lot of the slack. So it is frustrating,” Dampier explained.
He further highlighted that the late Queen Elizabeth had envisioned Harry and Meghan playing a crucial role in representing the monarchy across the Commonwealth, a role that now remains unfulfilled.
The situation is compounded by the fact that Harry and Meghan have established what Dampier describes as a “rival court” in California, which has reportedly caused some frustration for William and Kate.

“Now that they [have] set up as this kind of rival court, they will obviously hope that things they do don’t overlap with what William’s doing,” Dampier noted, emphasizing the impact of their move on the royal family’s dynamics.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down from their senior royal roles in 2020 has led them to pursue their own initiatives and projects independently of the royal family.
Their departure has left a noticeable void, especially as the remaining royals contend with ongoing challenges and health concerns.
