Instagram’s Threads Introduces “Save” Feature for Bookmarking Favorite Posts

Meta-owned Microblogging Platform Expands User Experience with Latest Update

Instagram’s Threads, a microblogging platform under Meta’s umbrella, is set to roll out a new feature that allows users to bookmark their favorite posts. Initially announced earlier this month, the “Save” feature underwent testing with a limited user group and is now being widely released, enhancing the platform’s functionalities.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, made the announcement via a post on Threads, stating, “We’re rolling out Save on Threads more broadly starting today, so you can bookmark your favourite posts for later.” The move aims to provide users with a convenient way to keep track of noteworthy posts in the ever-evolving and algorithm-driven social media landscape.

Potential Algorithm Integration Raises Questions

While the “Save” feature is geared toward user convenience, questions have been raised about its potential impact on the platform’s algorithm. When questioned about whether saving posts could influence the algorithm and the feed, Mosseri replied, “Eventually yes, but I don’t know if that’s the case yet.” The evolving nature of social media algorithms continues to shape user experiences.

Common Practice for User Engagement

Bookmarking or saving posts has become a common practice on social media platforms, addressing concerns about losing valuable content in algorithm-based feeds. As feeds rely on algorithms and infinite scrolling, saved posts offer users a way to revisit content and threads without fear of them disappearing.

How to Save Posts on Threads

To save a post on Threads, users can click on the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of each post and select “Save” from the list of options. A toast notification will confirm the successful save, and the post will be listed in the Saved section accessible through the user’s profile settings.

In addition to the “Save” feature, Threads has been testing a “Today’s topics” section, expanding the search page to showcase real-time trending posts without hashtags. This feature enhances user engagement by providing a streamlined way to explore and participate in ongoing discussions.

Instagram’s Threads continues to evolve its offerings, providing users with new tools and features to enhance their social media experience.
