Jennifer Lopez Breaks Silence After Filing for Divorce from Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez has opened up for the first time since filing for divorce from Ben Affleck, sharing a reflective post on social media that hints at her emotional journey. The singer, 55, posted a series of photos on Instagram on Thursday, August 31, marking her first personal update since news of the split broke earlier this month.
“Oh, it was a summer,” Lopez captioned the post, which featured a carousel of images from her summer. The photos included a snapshot of Lopez with her sister Lynda Lopez, and a quote that read, “Everything is unfolding in divine order.” Another image captured Lopez wearing a shirt that declared, “She’s in bloom and unbothered, out of reach and at peace.”
The post comes just weeks after Us Weekly confirmed that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, in Los Angeles. The paperwork was submitted on August 20, listing April 26 as the date of the couple’s separation. Notably, the filing occurred on the anniversary of their 2022 wedding, which was held at Affleck’s estate in Georgia.
“The timing of the divorce was a big f—k you to Ben,” a source revealed to Us Weekly, underscoring the tension that has surrounded the couple’s relationship in recent months.
Lopez and Affleck’s love story has been one for the ages, filled with ups and downs that have captivated fans for over two decades. The pair first met on the set of Gigli in 2002 and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples. They got engaged but postponed their wedding in 2004 due to overwhelming media scrutiny, eventually calling off the engagement.
Fast forward to 2021, and the two rekindled their romance after both had gone through their respective divorces and breakups. Lopez had been married to Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme, until their split in 2011. She later got engaged to former MLB star Alex Rodriguez, but they called it quits in early 2021. Affleck, on the other hand, finalized his divorce from Jennifer Garner in 2018 after 13 years of marriage, during which they had three children together.
The rekindling of “Bennifer” was a dream come true for many fans. Affleck proposed to Lopez for a second time in April 2022, and the couple eloped in Las Vegas just three months later, with their children present as witnesses. They followed up with a more elaborate wedding celebration in Georgia, which was attended by family and close friends.

However, in the months leading up to their divorce, rumors began swirling that the couple was facing difficulties. By May 2024, Affleck had reportedly moved out of their shared Los Angeles home, fueling speculation that their marriage was on the rocks. In July, insiders told Us Weekly that Lopez and Affleck were “doing their own thing” and trying to navigate their next steps as both individuals and as a couple.
Lopez spent much of her summer on the East Coast with her family, even canceling her This Is Me … Now tour amid the split rumors. Meanwhile, Affleck remained in Los Angeles, and the two noticeably did not celebrate Lopez’s 55th birthday together in July.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on her birthday, Lopez expressed gratitude for the support she’s received during this challenging time. “I want you to know on my birthday that YOU are my biggest gift,” she wrote. “Besides my family and friends, you have always been there for me in the good times and in the tough times.
I can always count on you. And I want you to know that you can always count on me. Thank you for your caring, your understanding, your loyalty, and most importantly your love. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.”
As Lopez steps into the next chapter of her life, her recent social media post suggests she is focusing on finding peace and moving forward with grace, embracing whatever the future may hold.
